Straight Stairlifts
A straight stairlift runs up and down a staircase on a straight rail. They are made up of three units that all work together. You have a rail system (often referred to as a 'track'), a drive system (often referred to as a 'carriage') and finally the seat.
The chair is fixed to the drive system which runs up and down the rail. Straight Stairlifts are electrically powered - mainly by a battery system that is re-charged by the domestic electricity supply.
Straight stairlifts are far cheaper to purchase than curved stairlifts due to the less complex design and track system. Straight stairlifts can be used both for inside and outside of the home, and there are many different types and styles to be considered being commonly called anyone of the following terms including a stair lift, chair lift, stair glide or stair chair lift.
Straight stairlifts tend to be the most common type for the home. The only requirement is that you are able to sit safely on the seat during transit and transfer on and off at the top and bottom of the stairs.
